General guidance on assessing health and safety risks (HSE website, opens in new window)
Link to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) website where guidance can be found on health and safety and risk management in the workplace. Guidance can be found on the ALARP (As Low as Reasonably Practicable) principle which describes the level to which workplace risks should be controlled, after weighing a risk against the costs of control; and there is also a guide to the correct use of CBA as part of ALARP decisions, and a checklist of what should and should not be included.

Valuation of Dread Risks (PDF 2.1MB)
People typically fear the prospect of premature death by some causes far more than others. This research report comprises the final reports from 3 separate studies: the first focusing on causes which typically result in instant or near-instant death such as road and rail accidents, the second focusing on causes typically preceded by protracted periods of pain and discomfort such as cancer, and the third summarising the literature on societal concern (risk-related issues that fall outside of the narrow purview of individual aversion to physical risk, such as the wellbeing of children or the mentally infirm).
