Bogus communications from the Asset Freezing Unit (AFU)
The Treasury is aware of a number of bogus communications claiming to be from the Treasury's Asset Freezing Unit (AFU), which ask the recipient for personal information or funds.
These bogus communications are often in the form of emails or letters, and sometimes use the name of a current or former Treasury employee. They are likely to be linked to organised fraud and it is strongly advised that you do not respond to them in any way.
The Metropolitan Police has a special Fraud Alert website, set up to assist in combating specific types of fraud, and to prevent you becoming a victim of crime, through the prevention advice and disruption activity.
If you are in doubt about the authenticity of a communication from the AFU, whether that is a letter, email or other form, please email the Asset Freezing Unit at AFU@hmtreasury.gsi.gov.uk.
