Summary of board meetings 2011-12

8 December 2011

The Chancellor welcomed Chloe Smith MP, Economic Secretary to the Treasury, as a new member to the Board.

The Chancellor invited Non Executive Members to offer their views on the performance of the Department over the year. Lead Non Executive Member, Baroness Hogg noted that Non Executives continue to challenge the Department on its capacity to respond to economic, international and financial developments while setting the example to Whitehall on downsizing.

Deirdre Hutton noted the successful implementation of the Treasury’s Strategic Review, changing for the better the Department’s way of working.

The Permanent Secretary welcomed the Non Executive Members’ views and updated the Board on recent departmental activity, including the successful delivery of the Autumn Statement.

Members discussed the performance of the wider Treasury Group and the issues facing these organisations over the coming months. They also discussed the emerging findings from the Review into HM Treasury’s Management of the Financial Crisis, currently being undertaken by Sharon White. Members considered these findings in context with ongoing events.

20 July 2011

The July meeting of the Treasury Board was cancelled due to Ministerial commitments in the House of Commons (debate on public confidence in the media and the police).
